The new media landscape has created so many new opportunities for authors to create an audience and share their vision with the world. This means you can create and share your own content marketing (tell about yourself to the world) as well as pursue traditional publicity (where the media tells the world about you).
The comparisons between content marketing and publicity are at the heart of my conversation with Michael Boezi, host of Marketing Without the Marketing: Content Strategy for Building an Audience. Michael interviewed me about my upcoming book, Publicity For Authors: 7 Steps to Get Media Attention Without Hiring a Marketing Team (DIY Author Press).
In fact, we talked twice: Once for his podcast, and then a follow-up interview for Blab. Check out both interviews below. If you want the free checklist to create your press kit, get it free when you register here.
In the course of these conversations, Michael and I discuss:
- How anyone can be a guest in the media without hiring a publicist. (But also why we’re not anti-publicist.)
- Why your press kit is important to more than just members of the press.
- Why it’s more helpful to be interviewed by a small media outlet than to be a guest on a big morning news show.
- How to pitch yourself to the right media outlets–and why you pitch an idea or story instead of pitching your book.
